Business card

Design of a business card with an informal and experimental approach, inspired by the aesthetics of fanzines and underground visual language. The project takes as its reference Gerd Arntz’s pictogram of the unemployed.

01

Initial concept

The proposal is based on the idea of combining the pictogram of an unemployed person (by graphic artist Gerd Arntz) with a business card about fanzines.

The world of fanzines follows the DIY (Do It Yourself) philosophy and is characterised by its independence and lack of commercial aims. In this way, the figure of the unemployed person establishes a conceptual connection with the spirit of the fanzine: creation from precariousness, passion and self-management.

02

Visual development front side

For the front side of the card, I created a repeating pattern based on the main pictogram, which reinforces the idea of mass. To give it a more visual and attractive touch, I added two coloured pictograms that are then used on the back.

03

Back side conceptual application

On the back side, the coloured figures are placed on connected lines, symbolising waiting (i.e. the unemployment queue), uncertainty, but also the contemplation and creativity that unemployment brings.

04

Typography and style selection

The chosen font is Amandine handwriting, a very informal handwritten font, in keeping with the style of fanzines and DIY aesthetics.
